I wear a size 9 shoe. Really.

Today has been one of those days where I've laughed out loud several times -- before 10 a.m., no less. Usually, someone forwards me an "inspirational" email that really just inspires me to go to sleep. But today I've received two emails that had me laughing all the way from my belly. How refreshing!

But today, the thing that's really on my mind is shoes. In particular, I'm very curious why women would buy shoes that are obviously too small for their feet. Do they think it actually makes their feet look smaller? Do they somehow feel better about themselves if they can say their shoe is a size 6, rather than a 7? This morning I saw a woman who had on a nice pair of sandals. The sandals were really cute and I was about to comment on them when I realized the woman's toes were practically touching the floor. Isn't that dangerous? I also noticed that her heels were hanging off the back. I think having sandals that are too small for your feet makes your feet look much bigger than they probably are. I decided to just keep my mouth shut.

I am very comfortable with my size 9 feet. I wish I had a picture to show you but I recently had an experience with someone with a foot fetish on Flickr so I'm a little leery.

I wanna have a wedding

I got married before anyone else did. Mine was the first wedding in my little universe. So I had to make it up as I went along. I read how-to books. I threw out etiquette. I did it my way. Although we got married in a Methodist church, there were no readings and no one sang. I gave the minister, who was a friend of mine, a book by a man who was involved in an assassination plot to kill Hitler. I showed Randy the section I wanted him to incorporate into a "sermon", but with my edits. I think it turned out nice. The reception was just a tea, with finger food and lots of alcohol. No dancing, no mariachi bands.

Since that time 15 years ago, I've gone to many weddings. Each one has been a little different from the others. I've accumulated many great wedding ideas. Now I want to have a wedding. I guess I'll just have to save all my ideas for my 20th wedding anniversary. That's only 5 years away. I should start planning now.

Perfect

We had our first camping trip of the season last weekend and the weather was perfect! It must have been in the mid-70's during the day and the low 50's during the night. And sunny! The sky was so blue and cloudless. It really was just perfect.

There were critters all around. I saw a deer briefly and Rowan and I heard one in the woods as we walked along a path. In the morning we saw fresh deer tracks, including some of a baby. I woke up in the night to the sound of coyotes fighting in the distance, and a raccoon visited our camp site looking for food. Someone near us left her car windows open and a raccoon got in the car and found some leftover lunch. Apparently, there was avocado smeared all over the front seat. The Blanco river was so clear we could see the fish, and turtles were sunbathing on logs.

The kids had a wonderful time and Lili even decided she wanted to stay, despite the fact the rest of us were in the van driving away to go home (she changed her mind and came home with us). I took K-girl's gameboy away Saturday when we got there and I had to remind her about it Sunday afternoon. She was having so much fun. So there's proof that kids don't need technology to prevent boredom. Rowan has a few girlfriends because of Camp Fire so you can bet he's not complaining.

We'll be going camping again in a month and I can't wait. It will be colder then so I should probably get the kids some long underwear. And I also know we need to bring even more marshmellows.

Foot fetish

I think there are a lot of people with a foot fetish on Flickr. I'll post a picture of someone's feet and put "feet" as a tag, and immediately that photo gets tons of views. It's weird.

Now, I've only posted two feet photos. I posted the first one because I thought it was a good photograph. And yeah, my son has nice feet. It is, I think, my second most viewed picture. My most popular photo has "penis" as a tag, so it doesn't surprise me it would be number one.

I took my second feet photo on Saturday night, seen here, and yes, it is quickly becoming one of my most viewed photos.

Most people don't think about the shoes the bride is wearing. They're usually covered up. Most people are looking at the bride's smiling face or the dress. The next time you go to a wedding, check out the shoes. Who knows? There could be birkenstocks under there.

Lisa definitely did not have birks on. Those shoes, and that pedicure, were amazing! And she had two toe rings on. I bet most people at the wedding missed that. Too bad for them.
