working it

She hates the camera. When she sees it, she'll run and hide, or flip over on her back. If she's on her back, eventually she'll get up and run away. On this day, she didn't. Maybe she's finally getting used to the camera.

I love the grass sticking out in between her toes.

bradford pear blossom

Spring is here! Not that our winter was harsh or anything. Winter here in Austin is more like an annoyance, really, but it doesn't last long. And now everything is starting to bloom, including the wildflowers. That also means there are bugs everywhere and you never know if there is a bug crawling on your shirt or in your hair.

Now I'm itchy.

Yes, Easter has come and gone. It was too early this year. I like Easter in April.

We dyed two dozen eggs this year. And I bought a box of cascarones to hide as well. That meant they each got to find 12 eggs. It was so much easier when they were younger and happy finding 3 or 4 eggs each. Now it's a dozen each, and even that doesn't seem enough for them. And my oldest, who's almost 12, probably has more fun finding eggs than the other two. So what does that mean for next year?

We'll be dying, hiding, and finding 2 dozen eggs each. That's 6 dozen eggs. I think I should invest in a couple of chickens and a coop for the backyard.

Sometimes I miss the swamps and bayous of Louisiana. I don't miss the snakes and spiders, though.

as cute as a baby komodo dragon, or two

I have a love/hate relationship with zoos, for all the reasons you probably do, too. But we took one day of spring break to go to San Antonio. I was a little disappointed in their education efforts; many of the exhibits had very little information about the animals. I did learn, however, that adult komodos will eat baby komodos so they had these 6 month olds in their own exhibit.

Last weekend I discovered, even though I've really known for a while, that my family really enjoys hiking together. And it sure beats going to the gym for exercise.

We went to Enchanted Rock on Saturday. I don't think I could say enough about how much I love doing the outdoor thing with my family. We didn't camp overnight because we were too busy to get our act together and the overnight low was forecasted to be in the lower 40s. We didn't feel like sleeping on the ground in that weather. But I'm already planning the next camping trip. This time we'll stay a little closer to home. We've never been to Inks Lake and it's high time we went.
